Seal Collection
The Collection comprises seals from a wide range of sources, including administrative bodies, cities, financial, postal, and maritime offices, military units, schools and cultural institutions, guilds and craftsmen, merchants, economic entities, ecclesiastical authorities, families and individuals, as well as unidentified seals, monograms, initials, signet rings, and others. Used in Split and across many other towns in Dalmatia, several items are of exceptional value. The seals date from the 16th to the 21st century, with most originating in the late 19th century.
As historical artefacts, they reflect the society and era in which they were created and constitute an important part of the political and cultural history of Split and Dalmatia, offering valuable insight into the region’s cultural and historical heritage.
